Get to Know Grisela

· Born and raised in Puerto Rico; moved to New Orleans at the age of 8

· Attended Lusher Elementary, Eleanor McMain Jr. High and graduated from Alcee Fortier Sr. High School in 1974

· 1978 graduate of Vassar College with a bachelor’s degree in English

· 1996 graduate of Tulane University’s A. B. Freeman School of Business with an MBA

· Married to Rev. Robert Bryant Jackson,

Pastor of Historic Second Baptist Church

· Mother to Jedidiah Bernell and Ana Damaris Jackson;

mother-in-law to Lyndsey Jalvia Jackson

· Co-owner of Young Engineering Company, L.L.C.

· Lifelong Democrat

· In 2006, as a result of the levee breaks following Hurricane Katrina, she established a non-profit to reopen Lawrence D. Crocker Elementary

as a charter school in 2008

· Lobbied for and was successful in getting a new Crocker facility built in the school’s original location in the Milan Neighborhood

· President of Crocker’s Board of Directors from 2008-2013

· Member of NOLA College Prep Board of Directors, 2013-2020

· Appointed as the Orleans Parish School Board Member

for District 5 on June 23, 2020
